Well… It’s been quite the week, hasn’t it? Part of me wanted to do yet another article on the garbage fire that is the Trump administration, and the very real threat he presents to basically everyone on the planet, including the white people who voted for him. The rest of me reminded that part of me that I’m already having trouble sleeping at night. So I’m turning my attention to other things for a moment, in an attempt to not scream into the void forever. Fighting Fake News | Vol. 4 / No. 3.4

By now it’s obvious to everybody but Zuckerberg that Facebook’s failure to fight so-called “news” that was outright fabricated by clickbait merchants may have had a significant impact on the presidential election. And while The Zuck hasn’t got any plans to actually do anything about it, calling the whole idea “pretty crazy,” Buzzfeed is reporting that inside the company there’s some dissent on that front.

You know in action-thriller films — in hostage situations — where, in order to let the heroes know the situation, the hostages will do weird things? You know, say things that don’t make sense? You know, “oh, no, I think the volcanic glow they heat McDonald’s apple ‘pie’ filling to is a totally appropriate temperature for human food,” or “Taco Bell has the best beef.” “Let’s go eat Arby’s.” Well, I’m starting to wonder whether Apple isn’t going through something similar. Is this a coded message, Apple? Do you need assistance? Blink once for yes.
